Fun Birthday

Celebrate your birthday!

Discover Kid Birthday Party Game Ideas For Quiet Time
By Mike Dougherty

Do you want a house full of excited children bouncing off your walls ,waiting for their parents to pick them up?

I didn’t think so.

So what happens after your child’s birthday party is over?

Here are two “secrets” you must learn that will quickly return peace and quiet to your home following your child’s birthday party.

OK, they aren’t really secrets, but they are excellent strategies that work and work very well.

Your Party’s Over, Now What?

When your child’s party is over, you’re tired, worn out from being a hostess and you need a break. Waiting to be rescued from a house full of children that are all wound up and still looking for fun is the last thing you need. And all you can do is pray for their parents to finally show up and take them home. Sometimes hours later!

The first strategy starts with the invitation

Along with all the other information about your party, including what time your party starts, you absolutely must include the END TIME for your party.

Write this in your own words:

Our party will end SHARPLY at 2:00pm” (or whatever time your party will end). Then state in kind words that children need to be picked up promptly.

By including this simple bit of information in your invitations you will discover that most parents will respect your request and be there at the appropriate time to pick up their children.

And you won’t be stuck watching a house full of kids. (Hey, that works for me.)

The second strategy is actually lots of fun

How would you like your house full of party guests to be kept busy with quiet games and activities during the last half hour of your child’s party? I know I would.

Plan at least 3 or 4 quiet games like:

Guess How Many

When your guests first arrive at your party, have a jar full of Jelly Beans, or Marbles, or something theme related like Princess pink Jelly Beans or Gummy Sharks. Have pen and paper handy and write down the name of each guest, then have them write down how many Jelly Beans (or what ever you have) are in the jar.

At the end of your party have all the kids site down. Then hold up the jar and remind them that they each made a guess about how many are in the jar. Now read each name and tell what they guessed. Then tell them how many really are in the jar and announce the winner. The winning prize can be the contents of the jar.

Pin The Tail Or Nose On?

Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a popular game. It’s quiet and can easily be modified to fit any party theme.

If your party has a princess theme you can play Pin the Tiara on the princess. For our son’s Star Wars party, we played Pin the Tail on the Wookie.

As each guests takes their turn playing, have your other guests sit on the floor.

Read A Story

Depending on the age of your child and their guests, have everyone sit down while you read them a story. It can be a theme related story or just a fun story.

What Did You Like Best

While sitting together, have each child tell what they liked best about the party and tell the birthday child “happy birthday.” For older children they can write down what they liked about the party and write a special birthday wish for your birthday child. This makes fun ready for your birthday child.

Sing-A-Long

Again, this depends on the age of your child and their guests. You can easily pick up a sing-along-video or you can sing your own songs. Just get everyone together, sitting on the floor having quiet fun.

Coloring

Nearly any age group can draw or color. Just set up an area with paper, crayons, colored pencils, or some other coloring media. For younger children you can use pictures from coloring books, or you can have your group draw their own pictures. When they complete their pictures they can take them home.

Craft Projects

These can also be theme related like decorating and putting together a princess tiara, or making and decorating a pirate’s treasure chest. These kinds of craft projects are easy to find at online party supply stores.

Watch A Theme Related Movie Or Video

You can also have your guests sit down to watch a theme related movie or video. If it’s a movie, just make sure the video doesn’t have inappropriate language or scenes and that it’s not too intense for younger viewers.

Can you already feel the peace and quiet?

The basic idea is to slow things down and keep the children involved in doing quiet things that are fun.

Now can you see how these two simple strategies will completely change the way your child’s party will end? No more wound up children bouncing off your walls. And you won’t be completely tired, worn out and begging to be rescued.

Instead, you’ll have a great time and when the other parents come to pick up their children, they’ll be amazed at how quiet things are at your house. How’d you do that? (it will be our “secret”).

Have fun

First Birthday Party Idea - Making Wonderful Memories
By Mike Dougherty

You’re so excited

Here’s a first birthday party idea that will preserve your child’s party, an important event in the life of your child and your family.

This is a special time to celebrate, remember, and look back at how much your baby has grown and learned in just one year.

Unlike other birthdays

Your child’s 1st birthday party is more for you, your family and friends. At only one year of age, your baby doesn’t understand all the fuss and excitement and why there are so many people in your home.

First Birthday Party Idea - You’re making memories

Even though your child is too young to appreciate their first birthday right now, you need to make sure that years from now when your child is old enough, they’ll be able to enjoy all the fun activities, gifts, food, family and friends that helped celebrate their very first birthday.

Here’s how

Pictures, a scrapbook and video or a DVD.

Take lots and lots of pictures and shoot lots of video. You can take too few pictures, but you can’t take too many pictures of your child’s first birthday party.

Set a goal

You want to document the entire celebration. Later on you can choose the best pictures to include in your scrapbook and DVD.

Treasured Keepsakes

Here’s a fun project that’s sure to become a treasured keepsake. Put together a special scrapbook about your child’s first birthday.

Include your pictures in chronological order, save a party napkin (especially if it’s a theme napkin), save an invitation and anything else that will help make your scrapbook special.

And if you shoot video or take digital pictures, either you or someone else can put together a precious DVD so that future generations to come will be able to see what everyone looked like “way back when.”

Your DVD can include shots of your baby’s room, special toys, stuffed animals and crib. And you can use a special song in your video.

Put your party together

Schedule your party at a time that works best with your baby’s schedule. You don’t want them to be fussy or cranky because they didn’t have their nap.

The party should only last a couple of hours because all the excitement will begin making your child tired and that can lead to being cranky and spoiling the party.

And remember that your young guests have a very short attention span too. So keep your games and activities short and simple.

Make your invitations interesting an fun

Your invitation should be fun, interesting and precious. Remember, you want everyone to know you’re going to be celebrating a very special event in your family’s life.

Use a phrase like “look who’s turning one year old” and include their newborn picture.

Just for fun

Make the newborn picture into a 3 or 4 piece puzzle. Or give then only one small piece of the puzzle and ask everyone to being their puzzle piece so the puzzle can be put together as a party activity.

Make sure to copy all the pieces in case someone doesn’t show up.

Decorate your home with a party theme

Do you have a theme for your baby’s room? That can be your party theme. Or you can use fun themes like Noah’s Ark, Sesame Street, Pooh or Over the Rainbow just to name a few.

Online party stores carry lots of wonderful first birthday party supplies for just about any theme you can imagine. To learn more just click on the link below this article.

The games you can play

Play games so the adults can assist the little ones.

Stack soft blocks, roll a ball, read a very short story, sing songs, do “baby art work” using crayons an paper.

Remember when

Put together a scrapbook of pictures and memories from the birth of your child, bringing baby home for the first time, baby’s first bath and all the special times through out their first year.

This gives everyone an opportunity to see the wonderful progress your child has made during their very first year.

Food and other goodies

You may want to have snacks available for the grown-ups and of course you’ll want to have a special cake.

First birthday cakes

You’ll have lots of fun putting together your little one’s birthday cake. You can put together a special cake that fits perfectly with your party theme. You’ll find theme candles and oh-so-cute cake decorations that will turn your cake into a masterpiece.

It’s going to be so much fun!

Yes, with this first birthday party idea, your child’s party is going to be a very special event, one you want to capture with lots of pictures and video that will be remembered and enjoyed for years to come.

And when your baby gets to be old enough, they’ll really enjoy seeing their first birthday party too.

Have fun.

Birthday Balloons and Pinatas - Twice the Fun!
By Raymond Plona

Birthdays mean parties! What could be more exciting than attending a party? Hosting a one! To throw a great party, one must have all the supplies needed. They are mainly:

- Food. Including drinks, you need to feed your guests with the kind of stuff that is appropriate for their age. For example, children prefer finger foods and snacks like burgers and fries, while adults may need more salads or barbecued fare. Water is a must at both kinds of parties while alcohol may have to be included in your beverage list.

- The most basic element of a birthday party is a cake. Without it, a birthday celebration is as good as incomplete. The highlight of a birthday bash is the blowing of candles.

- Party favors can be anything from snacks to balloons. However, it is up to the host to decide on giving the favors or not. If they decide on giving out favors, these little presents should be cleverly packed to make them look smart.

- Common party props are things like streamers, confetti and party hats. They are only needed when your party is themed. Otherwise, you can just go without them. Birthday party pinatas are also fun for children’s parties so you can have them only for the kids.

- Party décor like streamers, wall and ceiling hangings and balloons.

Birthday party balloons are a must if it is a children’s party. Children love balloons and birthday parties would be disappointing for them if there were none.

You should have two different types of birthday party balloons. One is the cheaper, normal elastic type that can be mouth-blown up and are available in different colors. For these types, you also have the options of different shapes like the conventional round-oval kinds or the elongated ones. These are commonly used as birthday favors as well.

You should also have the expensive foil balloons. Being coated with shiny material makes painting and writing on them a breeze. This will enable you to custom make wishes or design on them. Having them for favors would be quite costly as they are quite expensive. Therefore, they are only for decors.

To brighten up the party, have special messages on your party balloons like “HAPPY (age) BIRTHDAY”, “YOU’RE (age)” or “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WE LOVE YOU!”. These can easily be personalized at the store the balloons are bought from or specially ordered online.

Party pinatas are a fun way to get the party starting for the kids. They will have hours of excitement and get loads of cool presents and snacks while at it too. What could be better than that? Pinatas can be filled with amazing assortments of goodies like candies and toys. Pinatas can be in a form of donkeys, dogs, cats and even non living things like stars, vehicles and gingerbread men. Always remember that what makes it a pinata is the bright multicolored embellishments.

The birthday party pinata is hung from a beam or ceiling and blind-folded children take their turns at hitting it and often missing, causing lots of laughter and giggles all around. The hitting continues until the pinata is broken (preferably by the birthday child) and all the goodies fall out to be shared by all. As there is some amount of hitting with a stick going on, the pinata game must always be supervised by adults to avoid anyone getting hurt by either the stick or the goodies falling out.

The pinata may contain different types of goodies as they depend on the age of the guests. The pinata for birthdays should be prepared way before the arrival of guests. This will keep the contents a surprise thus will provide more excitements. The more mature the guests; you should leave the toys and opt for more snacks instead.

Balloons should never be treated like a pinata. These can cause terrifying experience for young children when there is a sudden burst of balloons. They may even go into traumas.

Why is it that pinatas and balloons are at all birthday parties we go to? It is because they are fun and goes easy on the pocket. Pinatas provide countless hours of fun to kids and even adults. Balloons make cheap décors and make great giveaways at parties. Therefore, a great party needs only two things, pinatas and lots and lots of balloons!

Raymond Plona is a leading expert in party planning and his store provides all forms of birthday party supplies for all your party needs. Some of his products include theme party supplies, birthday party pinatas, birthday party balloons and many more.

Saving Money on Birthday Parties - Nine Tips for Celebrations That are Frugal and Fun
By Jamie Jefferson

Saving money on birthday parties is something anyone can do. All it takes is a good plan and some savvy shopping skills. Here are nine tips for celebrations that are frugal and fun.

Keep it Small. The easiest way to reduce your birthday party spending is to limit the number of guests. Let your child know the limit, and be firm.

Don’t Schedule the Party at a Mealtime. You’ll also save money by holding the party at a time of day when you will not be responsible for providing a meal (from 2 to 4 in the afternoon, for example). Serve simple snacks or stick to cake and ice cream.

Find an Inexpensive Location. Have your party at home, if at all possible. Otherwise shop around and find a venue that is budget friendly.

Don’t Go Crazy with a Theme. If you have a theme, keep in mind that not every little detail needs to be theme-related. Instead, use colors to carry out the theme throughout the party and focus on the theme in a few general areas, such as table toppers and the cake decorations.

Make Detailed Lists. The more organized you are, the more you can save. Make a list for the grocery store as well as the discount store or dollar store for everything you’ll need. Then prioritize the list, separating the must-have items from those items that would simply be nice to have if there’s extra room in the budget.

Look for Bargains. Go to the dollar store and the clearance section of the online paper stores (and buy with an online coupon code, if possible).

Go Homemade. You can save even more by baking your own cake and making your own piñata. The activity of making these items, as well as the decorations, can be a fun part of the family birthday celebration.

Network. Ask other parents what they have done to save money on their kids’ birthday parties. This is a great way to get tips on cheap entertainment ideas or local resources for inexpensive supplies.

Save on Goodie Bags. Go for quality rather than quantity. All kids love to unwrap things, so instead of filling a goodie bag with small throwaway items, you might gift wrap a more meaningful item.

When you plan your party and shop around, you’ll throw a great birthday party without draining your bank account.

Three Fun Birthday Party Ideas at No or Very Little Cost
By Mark Kessler

When you get into planning a birthday party, ideas pop into your head and the most common thought is one that will be cost effective and fun at the same time.

Birthday party supplies can cost more than the actual gifts but not if you look around and see what you can get for your money. The most common thing that people want to do now is throw a birthday party with a theme. Birthday party themes come in all shapes and sizes, from sports to theater to Barbie and super heroes for children’s parties. The following birthday party ideas are meant to be cost effective for the party thrower and fun for the party goers.

Instead of buying supplies, try making your own decorations and cake. If you have a computer, you can use one of your programs to make your own “Happy Birthday” banner. This will save on buying a banner or special ordering a banner so that the name will be included. Other decorations can be made from paper plates that have been drawn on and colored, as well as using blank white or colored paper that has been drawn on and colored as well. These homemade decorations can be hung up with cheap cloth string that can be bought at the dollar store or can be hung up with fishing line.

As far as the cake goes, you can buy a nice brand of cake mix, some frosting and sprinkles, then bake and decorate the cake yourself. This won’t only be fun for you; this will also mean more to the person whose birthday it is.

The second birthday party ideas should be to make your own theme. If it is a child, find out what their favorite sport is or their favorite color. A university student once chose to have a “Rubik’s Cube” theme party. With this theme, he called everyone who would be coming to the party and asked them to wear an outfit where each piece of clothing was a color from the Rubik’s cube. The object of the night was not only to celebrate his birthday but also to see if everyone could end up in an outfit of entirely one color of the Rubik’s cube by exchanging clothing. His made up theme for his party ended up being a huge hit for not only himself but also for all of his friends that came to celebrate his birthday.

Finally, when making decorations or creating your own theme is out of the question due to time constraints, your local dollar store will have everything you need. Different color streamers, ribbons, and balloons can be bought for less than ten dollars. Though these decorations will only last for one party, they will be cheap and fun for all.

Birthday Party Fun: Goodie Bag Alternatives
By Deborah Shelton

If you’re looking for alternatives to pricey goodie bags, here are a few ideas that will make your guests–and wallet–happy.

Any Fun Party:

Take Polaroid photos of each guest with the birthday child, and decorate cardboard picture frames, or make frames with popsicle sticks.

Hawaiian Party:

Decorate inexpensive plastic sunglasses with artificial flowers. String together more artificial flowers for one-of- a-kind leis.

Royal Party:

Decorate paper crowns and make scepters from wooden dowels and plastic jewels.

Sleepover Party:

Decorate plastic light switch covers with stickers. Allow your young guests to embellish white pillowcases with fabric paints for a take-home sleepy surprise.

Spring or Garden Party:

Paint flower pots and include a pack of flower seeds for children to grow at home.

Survivor Party:

Send the children on a scavenger hunt equipped with compasses and trail mixes that they can make before the hunt. The compass will become a new favorite gadget, and the trail mix is a lot healthier that candy treats.

Tea Party:

Let the girls decorate straw hats with artificial flowers, which they can wear for the party, and later take home. Complete the party with candy necklaces.

Have fun!

Blind Pilot Paper Airplane Game - Fun for a Birthday Party!
By Sara Gray

Are you planning a party for your kids and need a fun game for them to play? Here’s a quick, fun and easy paper airplane game to play while you are transitioning to another activity. The Blind Pilot game offers a lot of giggles and grins for the little pilots-to-be…

Here’s what you’ll need:
- a paper airplane per person [your choice of paper airplane(s)]
- chalk or tape to mark the end point or target of some kind
- pad of paper and pencil

First, have your contestants make easy paper airplanes of their choice. (You can learn how to make 10 great designs on the Easy Paper Airplanes Website - just follow the link below.)

Next, line up your contestants with their paper airplanes and aim at a target or a finish point with their eyes closed.

You’ll need someone to be the monitor who will record the following:
- who throws the closest to the target
- best nose dive
- highest paper airplane flight
- best landing
- shortest paper airplane flight
- longest paper airplane flight

As the monitor/recorder, you can make 6 contests using the above criteria. Or you can make up and add your own categories.

What makes this game fun is watching the contestants do it with their eyes closed. As a variation, have them throw the planes with their eyes open and record the difference in the flight categories.

This works well for a birthday party for kids, but don’t limit yourself… If you need an outside classroom activity, or a team-building event, why not use this fun paper airplane game?

Happy Flying!

Sara Gray is a Mom and graphic designer with a love for anything made of paper. She’s created a fun place to learn all about Paper Airplanes, its history, interesting facts, loads of fascinating tidbits of paper airplane lore, fun games, activities, and crafts, and offers free downloadable paper airplane designs at Easy Paper Airplanes.

Birthday Party Games for Kids - Simple, Cheap and Fun Ideas
By Gail Leino

When planning a children’s birthday party, the cost is often the first consideration that comes to mind. But a fun party with lots of birthday party games needn’t be an expensive one. Classic birthday party games that are cheap and simple can also be loads of fun.

“Candy and Toothpick Race” Birthday Party Game

This is classic among birthday party games for older children. Prior to the party, buy some toothpicks and a good supply of Lifesavers candy. Split the guests up into even teams – 4 or more players per team works best – and hand out one Lifesaver per team and one toothpick per player. Team members must stand in a line one behind the other, with the object being to pass a lifesaver from the front of the line to the back of the line and back again, via a toothpick held between each player’s lips. If a team drops their Lifesaver they must start the race over again; the first team to pass their lifesaver up and back without dropping it is the winner of this challenging birthday party game.

“Balloon Jumping Relay” Birthday Party Game

When it comes to birthday party games, anything that involves balloons is fantastic. Set up this birthday party game by placing markers (buckets and pot-plants are good) about 10 meters away from the starting line, and blowing up plenty of balloons. Players split up into teams of 4 or more players, with one blown-up balloon being given to each team. Team members line up, and the first player has to put the balloon between his or her feet and jump all the way to the markers and back. If they burst or drop the balloon, they must return to the starting line, get another balloon if needed and try again. The first team to have all members complete one lap successfully is the winner of this fun birthday party game.

Mrs. Party… Gail Leino takes a common sense approach to planning and organizing events, celebrations and holiday parties with unique ideas for birthday party supplies and fun free educational party games. She explains proper etiquette and living a healthy life while also teaching organizational skills and fun facts.
